SAPFM SAPFM Society of American Period Furniture Makers

Who you’d be among

Where makers gather.

SAPFM is a fellowship of period-furniture makers. The work appears in the Gallery, the talk happens in the Forum, the friendships happen in the chapters, and the whole year converges at the annual conference.

The Member Gallery

Twenty-five years of work by SAPFM members — high-style case pieces, chairs, carving, turning, tools, and the occasional casual piece that came out of a period-trained shop. Open to the public. A running record of what this society makes.

The Forum

Year-round conversation between makers — questions, work-in-progress, finished pieces, sources, techniques, and the longer discussions that don’t fit a chapter meeting. Active since 2008. Lurkers welcome; members post.

Local Chapters

Twenty-two chapters across the country. Active chapters meet several times a year — the strongest run quarterly while local energy holds — to share work, examine pieces, and host visiting makers. Membership in the national society includes participation in any chapter, anywhere.

The Annual Conference

The year’s centerpiece. Several days of demonstrations, member presentations, side trips, the annual meeting, and the presentation of the Cartouche Award. As much a social event as an educational one.

Good company, at the bench.

The publications, the Members Desktop, and the reference library are the assets of membership. The people are the reason.
